Pediatric cardiac imaging--an historical perspective and future challenges.

This report defines the events that shaped the development of echocardiography and those studies that established the discipline of pediatric echocardiography, by noting the major contributions that defined the development of the craft. From the present perspective, future developments appear promising for providing even greater morphologic and physiologic information.
