A study to assess patient, pharmacist and physician compliance was carried out in a group of 200 ambulatory Black children. Patient non-compliance was observed in 45.5% of instances, and physician non-compliance in 62.5%, while non-compliance on the part of pharmacists was trivial. Other problems, such as inappropriate prescribing and an apparent lack of communication between physician and pharmacist, came to light. These observations are discussed and a series of recommendations are proposed.
