A surgical ultrasound-instrument was tested experimentally as well as clinically in the operative treatment of 48 patients with various orbital tumours. The transducer was shaped either as a scalpel or as a saw. The device worked on a frequency of 44,000 cps, the transducer-amplitude was 15 to 30 microns. This tool facilitates cutting of bony tissue and the incision of soft parts, it stops also bleeding of smaller and middle-sized vessels.
