Four years ago, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation provided $17.2 million in grants to AIDS providers in nine cities. Now each of those areas is operating programs that treat AIDS patients outside the acute-care setting. However, all of the grants will expire by the end of this year, sending the programs scrambling to line up new money to keep the projects alive.
