Unhappy with a five-day report turnaround time in 1989, managers of Rhode Island Hospital's diagnostic imaging department began to investigate transcription incentive programs and created a model for the organization based on the research. The authors provide implementation details in this article and report that after 15 months, the organization is experiencing increased productivity, decreased costs, motivated staff and improved report turnaround!
