The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations Standards address seven factors (patient dynamics, complexity of care, assignment complexity, technology, the patient care environment, supervision, and staff competence) to be considered when making nursing staff assignments. This article describes a form that is being used in the special care units of a medical center for this purpose.
