The state of Minnesota Employee Group Insurance Program is one of the longest-operating examples of the managed competition approach to health insurance purchasing. The program, now in its fifth year of managed competition, has achieved many of the outcomes projected by managed competition theorists, including significant savings in health care costs and expansion of managed care in rural areas.
