Delivering health care requires careful coordination on normal workdays, but during a natural disaster, the organization's planning and management can be sorely tested. The most crucial aspect to consider during a natural disaster is patient care; plans have to prepare for such an event in advance. In this article, the author discusses how some HMOs around the country have coped with providing care for patients during natural disasters and offers some key strategies for successful patient care delivery.
