Here, in brief, is the answer: Accepting capitated contracts without having the resources to manage both insurance-like risk and the process of caring for capitated patients is roughly equivalent to flying through mountains shrouded by clouds: Sooner or later, a mountainside is likely to appear in your windshield, close up and closing rapidly, at a point where it is too late to do anything about it!
