The Big Apple's world of academic medicine is in upheaval. Managed care is eating away at academic medical centers' revenue base and generating excess capacity. Each institution, to one degree or another, is ¿re-engineering¿ to reduce costs, improve efficiency and brace for painful cuts in government support.
