According to a recent survey by IAHSS, only 2% of the hospitals surveyed listed dogs among the security tools that they employ. Yet, according to hospital security directors who use canines, they can be valuable additions to a security force and accomplish certain tasks better than human officers. In this report, we'll describe the experiences of two midwest hospitals that have used dogs in security for extended periods--one for 10 years, the other for five.
