Managed care organizations are aware of the importance of managing the quality of care and controlling costs associated with the delivery of care. By utilizing physician-level performance reporting, an organization can help its physicians manage the organization's resources across the continuum of care. Physician participation can be obtained by developing a multicomponent program that includes opportunities for physician input regarding resource allocation and benefit packages; by articulating and documenting the organization's goals and priorities; by providing physicians with systemwide data related to indicators of their performance levels; and by offering financial incentives.
