The identification of medical students as "doctors" in hospitals can expose the hospital, the student, the medical school, and even the attending physician to a variety of malpractice suits. Although there is little available case law, state statutes and pronouncements by professional associations about patients' rights justify the requirement that student physicians be unmistakably designated as such.
