Physicians may not be aware that nonphysician members of the hospital staff rank each member of the medical staff as to his contribution and impact on the hospital. The author takes a look at the value of a physician from the standpoint of management. Four factors are examined: contribution to census, quality of hospital work, cooperation with management, and medical staff citizenship.
