In considering which of several models to adopt with regard to the treatment of terminally ill patients, hospitals should consider their specific needs, the needs of their staffs, and the laws of their state. The involvement of the patient's family should not include an unwarranted creation or imposition of legal rights that do not exist, and the model that is adopted must be workable and followed.
