Taking advantage of a vacant hospital building, a joint care team in Sunderland has initiated a centre for mentally handicapped children which includes assessment, physiotherapy, day nursery and residential facilities. Dr Alan Lillington, consultant paediatrician, Sunderland AHA, believes the scheme is unique in Britain in providing such a comprehensive service under one roof.
