The Ad Hoc Committee on the Principles of Medical Ethics of the American Medical Association currently is working to revise the Principles of Medical Ethics, first adopted in 1847 and last revised in 1957. In this article, the author examines the rapidly expanding and changing society that has made a revision in the Principles necessary.
