The trends in today's world of health care have come together to form a suitable backdrop for the rise of investor-owned clinics. Mandated change, competition, manpower availability, consolidation, the increasing roles of capital and of management, investment interest, the success of the proprietary hospital model--all seem to point towards the emergence of this new movement and, consequently, new possibilities for administrators of medical groups. The trend is apparent, but is it viable? Success will not be easy for there are many difficult challenges that must be addressed.
