In mid-1983, Mary Immaculate Hospital began operating with a 44-bed nursing unit. The larger unit was designed to be functionally efficient, architecturally attractive, and cost effective. This article examines the physical and functional changes made as a result of the larger unit, and the staffs' reactions to these changes.
