In search of the perfect laboratory computer system.

Some personal views on the selection of an ideal laboratory computer system are presented in this paper. Topics discussed include a review of some of the essential requirements for the ideal system; a survey of some of the commercial turn-key laboratory computer systems that are available; typical future trends that should be noted; and lastly, some criteria that may be used in the evaluation and selection of the ultimate system.
