The courts are beginning to recognize what hospital medical staffs and governing boards have known all along--that a physician's personality can affect the quality of the care that he delivers. Although disruptive conduct often is difficult to prove, the courts have been willing to accept the decisions of hospital governing boards to deny or terminate staff privileges of disruptive physicians if proper procedures are followed and reasonable evidence is produced.
