In approaching the goal of a comprehensive community service at the city of Salford (England), the long-acting neuroleptics seem to be an essential step toward a system of continuous care for schizophrenics considered vulnerable to relapse. The hospitalisation experience of a sample of 211 patients is measured on "mirror-image" basis, i.e. an equal length of time for each patient before and after the start of long-acting phenothiazines. The results show a very substantial reduction in hospital stay.
