The question of the surgeon's responsibility for the negligence of hospital employees during surgery continues to be a troublesome one. This article focuses on a recent case in which a hospital was held responsible for injury caused when a sponge count was negligently performed by surgical nurses acting under the hospital's written directions, where the court applied the "borrowed servant" rule to reach the proper result.
