Abstract
According to NIOSH, organizational controls are vital in a prevention strategy to curb needlestick injuries to healthcare workers. These include worker training, eliminating unnecessary sharps, and placing disposal containers where sharps are used. The material presented in this article was excerpted from NIOSH's new guide, "Selecting, Evaluating, and Using Sharps Disposal Containers."
