In preprosthetic interventions, optimal denture support may be obtained by means of full-thickness buccal mucosa grafts. In mucogingival surgery, buccal mucosa grafts may be used to form mucosal areas which rest firmly on the alveolar process and show no measurable tendency to shrink. Plastic repair by means of mucosa grafts is also possible after excision of verrucous carcinomas and precancerous lesions of the tongue and cheek.
