The European guidelines will form the backdrop for anemia management in European countries for the years to come. The existing differences will make literal implementation difficult in many places, however. Still, the guidelines set the standard against which the quality of anemia treatment should and must be judged. Dissemination will take time, but will go forward, in the end the patient will benefit.
