It is emphasized that the results of aorto-coronary shunting depend on the shunt patency. It is the author's opinion that the shunt patency is influenced by many factors, among which morphological changes in the wall of the venous graft are of great importance. The technic of taking the large saphenous vein in patients, its preparation for transplantation and a selection of the venous segment for grafting are described.
