Edendale Hospital, Pietermaritzburg. The first twenty-one years.

Edendale Hospital celebrates its twenty-first anniversary in 1975. Among non-teaching hospitals it has led the field in training and advancement of Black nurses and it has pioneered the employment of full-time specialists. It claims to have the first intensive care unit, the first central sterilising department, and the first postoperative recovery room in Southern Africa. Aspects of Edendale's early history are recorded.
