Following several ugly corporate divorces, more hospitals and healthcare systems are deciding to drop their merger plans. They're realizing that it just doesn't make sense to make the trip to the altar, even after long courtships. "Mergers in and of themselves have not been a panacea," one analyst said. "In fact, the reality of mergers has pointed out a lot of shortcomings in the executions, or perhaps in the expectations."
