Urinary tract infection. Are we getting it right?

BACKGROUND

A lack of strict diagnostic criteria often leads to overtreatment of inconsequential infection in the urinary tract and inadequate concern for potentially serious infections.

OBJECTIVE

To assist in the identification of patients with bacteria in the urinary tract who need to have antibiotic therapy and further imaging investigations.

DISCUSSION

Since the majority of urine infections are treated in general practice, much more research is needed on this topic within the general practice environment.
