Gonorrhoea was diagnosed in 258 of 1500 women. The diagnosis was made from urethral plus cervical cultures in only 184 cases (71.3%). The percentage of positive diagnoses rose to 96.5% when cervical smear microscopy was also performed. This highlights the need to carry out all three investigations. Concurrent Trichomonas infection was present in 14% of cases.
