On the grounds of its Venetian edition, Girolamo Ruscellini is identified as an author of Alexis of Piemont's Secrets. Simultaneously the views are disputed of those who regarded Alexis of Piemont as a real person and on the basis of his fictions curriculum vitae reconstructed a supposed biography of Ruscellini's. It is stressed that a nonexistent person lived its own life in the writings of some scholars and encyclopaedists.
