An archive document, dated 1867 informs us that there was a botanical garden in the Medical School of Demirkapi. The document related to the subject studied in the text and from them are informed the following knowledge: the gardeners brought from Wien did not know Turkish and therefore they needed translators. We learn from the document that the gardeners of the school were given presents. The salaries of the gardeners and the translataors were also listed in the document. We also learn that instead of Mr. Stefanaki who was a professor of botany at the Demirkapi Medical School, professor Kalya Efendi who studied chemistry and Bonkowski Efendi were responsible for the Department of Botany as assistant professors. Bonkowski Efendi was appointed to establish the botanical garden in the Medical School of Demirkapi.
