During the winter of 1941-42, an epidemic of louse borne typhus fever spread over prisoners of war camps in Germany. As the protector of her own captive citizens, France sent a mission to Germany composed of Professor Lemierre and Major Sohier in order to inquire about the German's actions to protect the French prisoners from this disease.
