Abstract

Upon submersion, the domestic duck normally displays a prompt but modest cardiac retardation, which, after a short delay, is reinforced into a pronounced state of bradycardia. The present study has revealed that arterial asphyxia is a prerequisite for the reinforcement of the initial slight bradycardia.
