Following a survey comprising of 172 patients subjected to nasotracheal general anaesthesia accounting for 37, 1% of all cases of anaesthesia the authors stress the particular usefulness of this method of anaesthesia in maxillofacial surgery. Nasotracheal anaesthesia is the most suitable method of general anesthesia in oral operations and it can almost completely eliminate tracheostomy which is a procedure frequently associated with both early and late complications. No early complications were observed in patients undergoing nasotracheal anaesthesia. Certain improvements of the technique of intubation and conduction of anaesthesia are described.
