Nineteen yeast strains belonging to the genus Sporobolomyces were tested for the ability to produce extracellular polysaccharides during submerged cultivation in a defined growth medium. These polysaccharides, accumulated by the yeast Sporobolomyces in the cultural broth, are a heterogeneous group of polymers.
