Abstract

Alkaline phosphatase effect on platelets was studied. The dog platelet was found to have 1.3-10(7) phosphate groups available for hydrolytic action of alkaline phosphatase. Incubation of platelets during 1 hr in the medium containing alkaline phosphatase inhibits aggregation induced by ADP, adrenaline, collagen, thrombin, and Ca++. The mechanism of alkaline phosphatase action on platelet aggregation is discussed from two points of view: 1) interference in the energy supply and 2) the removal of ligands for calcium.
