Data are submitted on physiological role of serotonin, on changes in its level in the blood plasma of 33 newborn babies with hypoxic affection of the central nervous system (CNS). It is shown that in neonates with hypoxic affection of CNS the level of serotonin in blood plasma gets singnificantly increased. A possible role is discussed of serotonin in formation of the metabolic intoxication syndrome in hypoxic affection of CNS in newborn infants.
