Histological analysis of the ovarian function of 415 female zebus emphasizes: -- A discontinuous genital cycle, characterized by periods of sexual rest which can last for three months or more. -- The late appearance of the degenerative phase of the corpus luteum which, at the beginning of the following cycle, still often presents images of functional activity. -- Atretic follicles which appear under three aspects whether the ovum or the granulosa persist or disappear. -- Corpora lutea of pregnancy which are usually replaced two or three times before parturition.
