This report is a chronicle of the activities that preceded and led to the licensure of occupational therapists in New York State. The activities began at the grass roots level with identification of problems that interfered with the delivery of occupational therapy services to patients in the Long Island area. Attempts to resolve these problems led to legislative monitoring and legal counsel. The end of the research era was marked by the wider involvement of the membership of the New York State Occupational Therapy Association required to secure the passage of licensure in New York State on August 11, 1975.
