To define the causes of disabling forms of tuberculous spondylitis, 218 patients with advanced complicated forms of tuberculosis of the vertebral column were examined. Their specific process was complicated by abscesses, fistulas, deformity, and instability of the affected portion of the vertebral column, and neurological disorders. Analysis of clinical findings has indicated that the main causes of complications are late diagnosis of the disease and general practitioners' poor special knowledge. Diagnostic errors may be also caused by a larger number of asymptomatic and atypical forms of tuberculous spondylitis. Diagnosis and differential diagnosis should be improved in order to prevent complications due to spinal tuberculous and as a result its disabling forms.
为明确导致致残性结核性脊柱炎的病因，对218例晚期复杂性脊柱结核患者进行了检查。他们的特异性病程因脓肿、瘘管、畸形、脊柱受累部位不稳定以及神经功能障碍而复杂化。临床检查结果分析表明，并发症的主要原因是疾病诊断延迟以及全科医生专业知识不足。大量无症状和非典型结核性脊柱炎形式也可能导致诊断错误。应改进诊断和鉴别诊断，以预防脊柱结核及其致残形式所致的并发症。
