Spurious complete obstruction of the inferior vena cava in an adult as a result of the Valsalva maneuver.

The authors describe a case of spurious complete obstruction of the inferior vena cava in a 60-year-old man, which proved to be the result of a Valsalva maneuver. It is recommended that if an apparent abnormality is noted on supine inferior vena cavography, the position of the patient be changed and additional films obtained in different projections without the Valsalva maneuver.
