Abstract

Gastrointestinal tract ingested foreign bodies are common problems, particularly in children. The most common ingested foreign bodies are coins. Once foreign bodies have passed through the esophagus and into the stomach, 80% will pass through the gastrointestinal tract unimpeded, with the remainder requiring endoscopic or surgical removal. It is rare to find ingested foreign bodies at routine colonoscopic examination, in particular in an adult without any prior history of ingestion.
