Client education in the ambulatory surgery setting.

The recent increase in the number of clients having ambulatory surgery has had an enormous impact on how nurses provide client education. This article discusses the purpose of client education, provides examples of teaching strategies used in the ambulatory surgery setting, and describes the benefits of postoperative follow-up calls. Examples of preoperative and discharge instruction forms are provided.
