Mr R: a case study of withdrawal.

This case study describes a patient with a long-time history of polysubstance abuse and dependence who was admitted to the hospital for detoxification from, and treatment for, his addictions. Despite physiological dependence upon the long-acting narcotic methadone, the patient did not show evidence of withdrawal from this agent until weeks after it was discontinued. This case emphasizes the psychological component of narcotic withdrawal.
