This article gives an account of the problems which faced medical photographers in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The lack of suitable equipment particularly in regard to cinematography led to ingenious but laborious techniques. The attitude of teaching staff towards the use of lantern slides was coloured by the cumbersome apparatus of the period.
