A new and simple method, the electrointraperitoneography (E.I.G.) is described and used for the recording of the digestive motility in conscious dogs and in anesthetized rabbits and rats. With the E.I.G. method, we have found the two types of potentials which characterise the electrical activity of the small intestine : the basic electrical rhythm (B.E.R.) and the action potentials (spikes).
