It is believed that a group of self-healing tumors which clinically and microscopically may be confused with squamous cell carcinomas are all variants of one entity, although there are certain differences between the members of the group. The clinical, as well as the histologic evaluation of these tumors is necessary to differentiate them from true squamous cell carcinomas. Some should be treated for cosmetic purposes since the scars following self-healing may be more unsightly than those caused by treatment.
