Pressure area care: monitoring standards.

This article reviews the establishment of a Pressure Area Care Project Team in Gloucester Health Authority, with the aim of shifting the emphasis for care from treatment to prevention. A review of literature relating to the causes of pressure sores is followed by a description of the group's development of a research-based, written policy for prevention.
